Steve has spent thirty years in the Financial Services Industry, including over fifteen years in the mortgage business. For three of those years, Steve owned a mortgage brokerage, operating as an Illinois Residential Mortgage Licensee, located in Schaumburg, Illinois. His depth of experience and knowledge includes all phases of operational, sales and sales support levels within the mortgage and banking Industry.

More About me

In 2006, I restarted a mortgage operation in the Chicago Loop after leaving Wintrust Bank. I worked hard to build the company until 2009 when the industry suffered a collapse, and I had to wind down the business. After that, I joined a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Throughout my career in the mortgage industry, I have gained extensive experience in various areas such as loan processing, underwriting, compliance, governance, product and pricing management, general office and branch management, sales management, loan originator training, and personal loan origination production.

From 2009 to 2020, I served as the President of the National Association for Debt Education & Assistance (NADEA), a non-profit organization that provides financial education and consumer credit counseling. During my time there, I oversaw a team of thirty-five counselors and customer service representatives. Additionally, I played a key role in getting NADEA approved for counseling services to veterans by the Veterans Administration.

I also helped NADEA become an approved buyer of distressed properties through the National Community Stabilization Trust program with Fannie Mae and national banks. From 2010 to 2020, we were able to purchase over three hundred properties directly from FNMA and Bank REO’s, rehabbing them through our network of investors. This allowed us to turn these properties into community assets and increase the stock of affordable housing for low-to-moderate-income, working families.

In 2020, I joined RE/MAX Properties Northwest, where I provided support to the managing broker, managed commission statements and payments, accounting, payroll, administrative oversight of support staff, and RE/MAX franchise management.

Currently, I am part of the Expert Lending Team within the Ed Miles Team, where I will be transitioning to sales and processing support, including loan origination. My role involves providing guidance for realtor customer service and in-house loan originators within the RE/MAX offices. I will be working closely with the realtors to provide a seamless transaction system that promotes quick and efficient closings.
